idiots

There's been a parade of idiots this week! A couple of days ago a group of real skanky humourless looking chavs took a petition to 10 Downing Street claiming that fuel prices were too high and would the government kindly subsidise their anti-social behaviour and spread its costs on to general taxation. Morons. Listen you fucks - petrol and diesel is incredibly CHEAP. Make the most of it because prices are going to skyrocket over the next decade and most of you will not be able to get fuel at ANY price. Get used to it.

Whilst here in Bristol a bunch of equally chav dinosaurs were celebrating our spineless council's pathetic attempt at keeping the past going by authorising a new Sainsbury's supermarket. The chavs are some football team supporters who seem to think that this is a green light to build a new stadium. Miles from the railway!!

The best thing about Ashton Gate is that it has its own railway station, currently unused but easy to reopen (it's on what will be the extremely busy and profitable Portishead line) which is obviously Sainsbury's main criteria for grabbing this site at a knock down price. Not that supermarkets have a long term future, but it may keep customers coming for a few more years after oil, and will of course make it easy to bring in fresh stock.

All in all a bit of an anachronistic week!

taking it easy

So our marvellous tanker drivers are on strike? Oh dear - back to the seventies.

And what do the general public think of their (in)action?

Results of an AOL poll today -

Do you support the strikers?

Results: .......Votes ...Per cent

Yes.................793.........44%
No...................944........52%
Don't know...... 68..........4%

Mmm. Well you can discount most of the 'yes' votes as they're probably from tanker drivers taking it easy at home, and from a few rogue cyclists and Peak Oil types.

So it's an overwhelming no then.

GET BACK TO WORK YOU LAZY FUCKERS WHILST YOU'VE STILL GOT JOBS! £42,000 FOR DRIVING A TRUCK IS OBSCENE.

poor fuels ...

The comics are making a fuss over the non-story that petrol's likely to hit £1 a litre this summer. Er, so? The price still doesn't reflect either its scarcity or the damage caused to the environment by burning it. £5 a litre would be more realistic, and high enough perhaps to alter peoples' behaviour and begin to affect government transport policy.
Until then it is unbelievably cheap, and we should all make the most of it while we can, because in a few year's time £1 a litre will seem like we were almost being given it for nowt.
But then the Express gives itself away by trying to quote in gallons! Petrol hasn't been sold in gallons since the 1980s and we all earned far less back then, so any comparison is frankly facetious. It was like the tosser who complained about the price of tea at the catering coach this week - nine shillings! As decimal currency hasn't been around since 1971 we can only guess how much he earned back then, and how much a cup of tea was ...
